Food Handler VS Food Safety Supervisor Training?
Food Handler Training:
This training is essential for anyone who directly handles food during its preparation, storage, or serving. It covers basic food safety principles, personal hygiene, safe food handling practices, and the prevention of food contamination and more.
Food Handler training is now mandatory for most individuals involved in the day-to-day handling of food.
Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Training
FSS training is nationally accredited training that goes beyond basic food handling and is required for specific food businesses to comply with state and territory regulations.
Food Safety Supervisors are responsible for overseeing food safety practices in a food business and ensuring compliance with food safety laws. The training includes more detailed knowledge about food safety management systems, HACCP principles, regulatory requirements, and supervisory responsibilities.
- FSS training requires renewal / recertification every 5 years
- Only Registered Training Organisations (RTO) can deliver FSS training. In NSW only approved RTOs can deliver the training.
- FSS Units of Competency differ between States and by sector.
